Mark your calendars now to participate in upcoming UF/IFAS variety displays created by citrus breeding teams.

UF/IFAS citrus breeding teams need input for their upcoming variety displays, which are “opportunities for interested parties to sample fruit from new and recent selections,” according to a Citrus Industry article. The article maintains that “Shoppers in produce departments represent a diverse audience, which echoes the need for a diverse group of participants at all the fruit displays,” so researchers invite “growers, processors, packers, marketers, and fruit enthusiasts” to participate. Details of Variety Displays

According to the article, variety displays include citrus samples of “a range of varieties and complete survey forms that provide valuable feedback to the CREC Plant Improvement Team,” and orange juice from citrus with potential for the juice stream is always a possibility.

The article shared the following dates for upcoming events where varieties will be on display and participation from the industry is requested, held at the Citrus Research and Education Center (CREC) at the Ben Hill Griffin Auditorium at the CREC at 700 Experiment Station Road in Lake Alfred, Florida:

  • 18, 2023, 1:00 p.m., after the OJ Break
  • 15, 2023, 1:00 p.m., after the OJ Break
  • 20, 2023, 1:00 p.m., after the OJ Break (featuring a presentation on citrus breeding)
  • 23, 2024, 1:00 p.m.
  • 21, 2024, 1:00 p.m., after the OJ Break

An additional event is also scheduled for the Gainesville Citrus Breeding at 2801 Hull Rd. in Gainesville, Florida:

  • 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., along with research updates and a field tour
