Cattle producers and land managers are being asked to participate in a phosphorus survey for a project is led by Dr. Maria Silveira, a Soil Scientist at the UF/IFAS Range Cattle Research and Education Center in Ona. Funded by Florida Cattle Enhancement Board funds, the project is meant to create an understanding of phosphorus (P) balances and budgets in Florida. See the details below.
Phosphorus Survey Details
According to a UF/IFAS blog calling for participants for the phosphorus survey, the “survey will be instrumental in helping us estimate P budget for cow-calf operations and also understand the contribution of the cattle industry to the overall P budget in Florida.”
The survey has 15 questions related to a cattle producer’s or land manager’s cow-calf operation. Each question has a few parts to be completed. Questions pertain to ranch size and use, stocking rates, herd size, animal nutrition, and more. Project organizers estimate the survey will take 15 to 30 minutes to complete. It can be completed online, by phone, or by mail.
