The Four Rs Defined
The Four Rs refer to the right place, right time, right rate and the right product concerning the use of nutrients on crops. The goal is to use only the nutrients required and no more so that crops have production rates and as little nutrients as possible are lost through leaching or not used by the crop. Using this method as a Best Practice, the crops get what they need and the environment is protected.
The Benefits of the Four Rs
“The biggest thing we come down to is environmental impact, bees, beneficials, and just the overall impact of using products in general and saving money is getting the most out of it as you can,” Gilcrease shared in the article. Using the Four Rs is good for the environment, good for crops, and it saves applicators and producers money.
“If we go with the wrong products at the wrong rate, the wrong time or the wrong place, you’re going to have to come back in again quicker. That means spending more money on applying stuff that you shouldn’t have had to do before.”
