The UF/IFAS Ag Worker Safety Program is being offered virtually to citrus workers to meet necessary training requirements.
Citrus workers are required to fulfill necessary training requirements for the federal Worker Protection Standard, food safety, and personal hygiene. Starting February 1st, UF/IFAS has started offering the 2022 Ag Worker Safety Program online through June 30th so citrus workers can meet the requirement virtually, according to a Citrus Industry article. See the details below.
Taking the Ag Worker Safety Program Virtually
According to the article, the annual Ag Worker Safety Program is “designed to help employees work safely to prevent accidents, operate equipment in a mindful manner, and be aware of their surroundings to avoid dangerous situations.” The program includes six training sessions, three of which— COVID-19, heat stress, and first aid—are new this year. They include:
- Agricultural tractor safety
- Worker health and hygiene
- Overview of food safety for fresh citrus
- Worker Protection Standard
- CDC-issued guidance for COVID-19 in agricultural workplaces
- Heat stress and first aid
The program is offered bilingually, and it is recommended to use Google Chrome or Firefox browsers to access the content. Those taking the training sessions will need to be able to print, scan and upload the sign-in sheet to complete the training modules. Each training session comes with its own certificate of attendance.
The cost is $3 per person for as many training session modules as needed, with a cap of $100 per company, according to the article.
The program’s training session modules can be found here.
