Registration is open for the 2020 Reunion Ride in January and February,  which commemorates the Great Florida Cattle Drive.

The first Great Florida Cattle Drive was held in 1995 to celebrate Florida’s 150th birthday; 1,000 head of cattle were driven 100 miles through The Sunshine State, and the event has been held every 10 years since. The event is dedicated to preserving Florida’s heritage as a cattle state. The next one is slated for 2021 to mark 500 years of cattle in Florida since Ponce de Leon brought the first in 1521. Reunion rides have been held every year, and registration is open for the next one, planned for January 31st to February 3rd, 2020. See the details below.

Details of the 2020 Reunion Ride

The Reunion Ride will start at the Florida Agricultural Museum, which is located about 20 miles south of St. Augustine. The event lasts from January 3ist to February 3rd and commemorates the Great Florida Cattle Drive, as no cattle will be driven at this event. Attendees are encouraged to camp and enjoy riding at any time, though there will be two planned rides.

Activities are scheduled throughout the weekend, such as the Dutch oven and smoker cooked Prime Rib Dinner on Saturday night. The theme of the event is “Return to our ranching and farming roots,” and using primitive camping skills and wearing traditional 1800s or western clothing is encouraged. In fact, one rule states that “We strongly encourage participants to wear traditional 1800s or western clothing. No T-shirts, shorts, tennis shoes or ball caps are permitted on the trail or outside your immediate camp. NO EXCEPTIONS.”
