UF/IFAS’s new Citrus Research and Extension website to share latest information with Florida citrus growers.

Citrus greening is enemy #1 for Florida’s citrus industry and it’s invested partners, such as the researchers with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences’ (UF/IFAS) Citrus Research and Education Center (CREC). Researchers are conducting an array of studies, producing new rootstocks, and looking for ways to help Florida citrus growers to combat citrus greening. Their findings will soon be on a new Citrus Research and Extension website to put it right in the hands of citrus growers, according to a Citrus Industry article. See the details below.

Citrus Research and Extension Website Details

The focus of the new website is to provide “ideas and practices that growers can implement today to increase their fruit yield, protect their groves, and improve fruit quality,” according to the site. Citrus growers can find information on citrus greening treatments, other pests and diseases, information on nutrition, and more.

The site is set to feature the latest research data from trials of citrus rootstocks, scions and combinations that are meant to help combat citrus greening, also called HLB. “We’re excited about the information coming from our field trials of the new rootstock and scion varieties developed by our citrus breeding team. We know growers are hungry for this data, and our faculty have been working to assemble this new information, which will be available on a new website for easy access by growers,” said Michael Rogers, director of CREC.

“We have devoted ourselves previously to plant trials and collect data from as many locations in the state as possible. This new source of summarized information is intended to provide growers transparent access to our collective results, so they can make better informed decisions on future planting options, to remain profitable in the endemic HLB world,” added Fred Gmitter, a UF/IFAS professor of breeding and genetics.
