Details of the Rancher Recordkeeping Tool
According to the article, the Redbook contains more than 100 pages to allow ranchers to keep a daily record on an array of topics. These topics include:
- calving activity
- herd health
- pasture use
- cattle inventory
- body condition
- cattle treatment
- AI breeding records
- And more
According to the article, the Redbooks also contains “a Producers Guide for Judicious Use of Antimicrobials in Cattle, Beef Quality Assurance Best Practices and proper injection technique information, as well as a calendar and notes section.”
One beef producer maintained that “The Redbook has become a vital tool for U.S. cattlemen and women in their efforts to detail actions and practices on farms and ranches,” according to Dan Kniffen, a Pennsylvania beef producer. “It’s a way to document both the daily challenges and the positive steps they’re taking to show continuous improvement on their operations. Furthermore, in this age of electronics the paper Redbook is cost-effective and always available, regardless of internet service or access to electricity. It’s a time-proven handheld method for record-keeping,” according to the article.
The Redbooks are $7 each, and they can be ordered here.
