The Fertilizer Institute honored five farmers and retailer partners as 4R advocates.
The Fertilizer Institute is set to honor five farmers and retailer partners as 4R advocates at the 2017 Commodity Classic in early March in San Antonio, Texas. The Fertilizer Institute named the five 4R advocates in December 2016, choosing those “who are leading the way in implementing 4R Nutrient Stewardship practices on the farm.”
4R Nutrient Stewardship Practices
Chris Jahn, ) President of The Fertilizer Institute (TFI, said in a TFI press release, “4R Nutrient Stewardship is a top priority for the fertilizer industry, which is committed to enhancing environmental and economic sustainability across their operations – from the production plant to on-farm application.”
The 4R Nutrient Practices aim to “increase yields, improve soils, and decrease fertilizer’s environmental footprint,” according to Jahn. They are based in the principles of:
- The right fertilizer source
- At the right rate
- At the right time and
- In the right place
