Florida citrus may be down, but it’s definitely not out. Though citrus greening is taking a negative toll on the industry, the industry is holding strong in the Sunshine State. No doubt citrus greening will be a topic that is front and center at the next Florida Citrus Expo, but the focus will be on management, treatment and therapy. Slated for August 17th and 18th at the Lee Civic Center in North Fort Myers, it will be the 25th anniversary of the Florida Citrus Expo. Registration is open for both growers and attendees; access the registration page for both here.

With a slogan of ‘Now is the Time,’ the Citrus Expo’s goal is to offer a chance for education and fellowship for the citrus industry. The event will feature numerous educational seminars for growers to attend. The majority of the educational sessions are presented by scientists and researchers with UF’s Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (IFAS) and Citrus Research and Education Center (CREC). Citrus greening, citrus black spot and citrus canker are the main topics of the seminars. Additional topics include water regulations, results of the bactericide survey and the future of the Florida Department of Citrus.

Additionally, the event also features a vendor’s exhibit where the newest products and services catering to the Florida citrus industry are on display. Vendors pay to attend one or two days, allowing growers to attend the event for free. Lodging for the Citrus Expo at a group rate is available at the Holiday Inn, Fort Myers at Town Center.
