See details of the sales tax rebate Gov. Scott enacted to help ag operators who have damages from Hurricane Irma.

Hurricane Irma brought a lot of destruction to the ag producers of Florida in early September 2017. Though federal aid has been approved, the funds have not yet been released. In an effort to help the state’s ag producers, Gov. Scott announced a temporary sales tax rebate for repairs resulting from Hurricane Irma. The Florida Farm Bureau has created a page to help facilitate the process. See the details below.

Details of the Sales Tax Rebate

The details of the sales tax rebate from the Florida Farm Bureau include:

  • This is a temporary tax rebate for Florida farm families suffering severe damage from Hurricane Irma. The Department of Revenue has not released the rules or forms yet.
  • A refund of sales taxes paid on select fencing materials used to repair agricultural fencing.
(must be purchased between Sept. 10, 2017, and May 31, 2018)
  • A refund of sales taxes paid on select building materials used to repair non-residential farm buildings.
(must be purchased between Sept. 10, 2017, and May 31, 2018)
  • A refund for state and local fuel taxes imposed on motor fuel and diesel used for the transportation of agricultural products from the farm to a processing or packaging facility.
(must be purchased between Sept. 10, 2017, and June 30, 2018)

The Farm Bureau advises that ag producers who believe they can take advantage of the rebate take the following steps:

1) Collect material receipts for repairs to farm fences or non-residential structures.
2) Keep checking back at this web page for more detailed information.
3) Sign up for AgWatch and the eNewsletter to receive timely updates on this rebate.
