Florida tomato growers should register now to attend the 2022 Florida Tomato Conference on Wednesday, September 7th at the LaBelle Civic Center in LaBelle, Florida, hosted by The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). Slated for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,  the event “will feature insight from industry leaders and university specialists,” according to a Specialty Crop Industry article. Details of the 2022 Florida Tomato Conference

According to the Specialty Crop Industry article, the speakers will be discussing “trends affecting the industry’s future, how diseases and insects are impacting production, and how genetic research is impacting the crop’s future.”

Topics include:

  • The state of the industry
  • Stink bugs monitoring and control
  • Using kaolin clay
  • The importance of nematodes
  • Emerging viruses in Florida tomatoes
  • Foliar diseases and the decision support system
  • Disease resistance and gene editing
  • Using applied genetics to improve Florida tomatoes
  • Tomato variety update
  • New botanical insecticides
  • Controlling whitefly
  • New nematicides and insecticide products
  • Sustainable soils
  • Crop protection products

Additionally, many businesses will be sharing product presentations. The event will end with a food safety workshop after lunch.
