Griffin Fertilizer, a division of Ben Hill Griffin, Inc, was founded by Ben Hill Griffin Jr. in 1959. You’ll find his name on many different monuments and buildings across The Sunshine State, including Ben Hill Griffin Stadium—or The Swamp— home field of the Florida Gators. Another building named to honor our founder—the University of Florida/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center Ben Hill Griffin Hall—is the site of the upcoming Citrus Packinghouse Day. It’s a time for citrus growers and others in the industry to hear updates concerning many different areas in the Florida citrus industry. See the details below.
Details of Citrus Packinghouse Day
Where: The University of Florida/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center Ben Hill Griffin Hall, 700 Experiment Road, Lake Alfred, Florida.
When: Thursday, August 24th, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. On-site registration opens at 8 a.m.
What: According to a UF/IFAS blog, the Citrus Packinghouse Day will feature information concerning “promising research updates, updates in various shipping requirements, and Ag. labor related to fresh fruit handling and transport.” The event will also include “exhibitors and networking opportunities.”
According to the blog, attendees can expect:
- The presentation of the John T. Leslie Award of Excellence Award.
- “Presentations on promising technologies such as citrus grown under protective screens and oxytetracycline injection for HLB management.”
- Updates on:
-“The latest phytosanitary and regulatory issues.
-Global changes in packing regulations.
-Current status of cold hardy citrus in North Florida after the Christmas 2022 freeze.
-Pre- and postharvest fruit decay control methods.
-Pesticide maximum residue limits.
-Agriculture labor.”
