September 21st to the 26th is National Farm Safety and Health Week, explore what it’s all about and how to participate!
The National Safety Council initiated National Farm Safety and Health Week, and has been “proclaimed as such by each sitting U.S. President since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944,” according to the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS); NECAS currently leads the event. Explore the details below.
Details of National Farm Safety and Health Week
National Farm Safety and Health Week is a time to shine a spotlight on America’s farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural workers. According to the NECAS, “the agricultural sector is still the most dangerous in America with 574 fatalities, or an equivalent of 23.4 deaths per 100,000 workers.” Fall harvest season is the busiest and most dangerous time for the nation’s farmers, which is why the event coordinates with harvest season.
This year’s there is “Every Farmer Counts,” and is meant to “acknowledge, celebrate, and uplift America’s farmers and ranchers who have encountered many challenges over the past couple of years, yet continue to work hard to provide the food, fiber, and fuel that we need.”
