The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program (RFSI) grant is open for Florida producers and others needing funding.

The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program (RFSI) grant is open for Florida producers and others needing funding for “projects designed to build resilience across the middle of the supply chain,” according to a Citrus Industry article. According to the article, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service (USDA/AMS) and The Sunshine State have over $8 million in funding to award. It’s part of a nationwide effort by the USDA to “strengthen local and regional food systems.” Grant applications are being accepted until August 5th. See the details below.

Details of the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program Grant

The article maintained that “Using RFSI funding, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) will fund projects that build resilience within the middle of the supply chain while strengthening local and regional food systems. The projects will focus on supporting Florida farmers and producers. The program will expand the capacity and infrastructure for the aggregation, processing, storage, transportation, wholesaling and distribution of regional agricultural products.” Growers can apply here.

In a USDA press release about the nationwide funding—which totals $420 million—the USDA shared that the funding would go “to projects that expand capacity for the collection, processing, manufacturing, storing, transporting, wholesaling, and distribution of food products, including specialty crops, dairy, grains for human consumption, aquaculture, and other food products, other than meat and poultry. Entities eligible for subawards include agricultural producers or processors, non-profit organizations, local government entities, tribal governments, and institutions such as schools, universities, or hospitals.”
