Register now to attend the June 13th Turf Academy: Advanced Turfgrass Management, presented by UF/IFAS Extension.
UF/IFAS Extension is presenting Turf Academy: Advanced Turfgrass Management in mid-June. Turfgrass management in Florida is a complex undertaking, and a lack of knowledge can lead to mismanagement. This program will provide training in an array of multiple areas concerning turfgrass management. See the details of the event below.
Details of Turf Academy: Advanced Turfgrass Management
When: Thursday, June 13 ⋅8:00am – 3:00pm.
Where: West Florida Research and Education Center 4253 Experiment Dr, Jay, FL 32565.
What:
“Turfgrass covers a large portion of urban landscapes, however, it is often mismanaged. Some of this mismanagement is due to the lack of knowledge of proper turfgrass management and the complexity of turfgrass management in Florida. This program addresses the need for turfgrass management training for extension faculty and staff and will provide updates on current research, new recommendations, and new/emerging pests and products.
The program will cover turfgrass identification and new cultivars, fertilization including spreader calibration, irrigation management and technology, and pest management (weeds, insect, disease, nematodes) including new or emerging pests and pesticides. The program will involve either classroom presentations and/or outdoor activities, depending on the speaker preference, with the aim of providing firsthand experience of turfgrass management and pest identification. Upon completion of the IST, learners will be able to:
1. Identify common turfgrasses grown in Florida and recognize the new cultivars coming to the market,
2. Accurately calculate fertilizer needs and calibrate a spreader,
3. Accurately calculate irrigation run times and nutrient loads from reclaimed water, and
4. Identify the common pest known to impact turfgrass and potential solutions.”
