We regrettably announce the loss of Ben Hill Griffin III, who passed away peacefully at his home in Frostproof, Florida, on Saturday, July 25, 2020.
Mr. Griffin was born in Frostproof, Florida and attended classes at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After that, he returned to Frostproof to join the family business, Ben Hill Griffin, Inc., where he was trained in all divisions of the Company including citrus, cattle and fertilizer production and processing.
During his tenure as Chairman of the board and Chief Executive Officer of Ben Hill Griffin, Inc., he was recognized as an adept leader and businessman both within the Florida agricultural industry and statewide business communities. He served as Chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission and was inducted into both the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame and the Florida Agriculture Hall of Fame. Additionally, he was active in many Florida business associations including the Council of 100, Florida Tax Watch, Florida Land Council and Florida Chamber of Commerce.
Ben Hill Griffin III was a benefactor for higher education including major support for the University of Florida and the Florida Gulf Coast University. He also provided support for many local activities and charities. He was well known for his contributions to good causes, including good governance, and he will be missed by many.
