Recently, the University of Florida held the 31st annual Northwest Florida Beef Conference and Trade Show at the Agriculture Conference Center.

The conference focused on how to run a profitable ranch in a declining beef market. Keynote speaker, Dr. Larry Corah, has served the industry for years as the Vice President of Certified Angus Beef, the Director of Production Systems for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and as a Beef Extension Specialist for Kansas State University.

He presented ranchers his guide on how to improve the efficiency of their operations and income while in a struggling cattle market. Overall, attendees learned how to better:

  • Enhance the value of their calf-crop
  • Analyze factors that affect forage quality
  • Sustain feed in winter based on forage tests
  • Focus on long-term profits in the current cattle market
  • Improve herd performance through heifer & cow management
